| canon | The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
| character name | Skull Kid
| character age | Child age! It's implied in canon that Skull Kid might actually be very old, but he's forever stuck, both mentally and physically, as a young child.

| gem | Night gem
| reason | Skull Kid is heavily associated with the moon. It's what he uses to nearly crush a world into nonexistence, after all! But more than that, a lot of qualities that Skull Kid has - loneliness, sorrow, lashing out at other people - they're qualities associated with darkness. And influenced by Majora as well as his own jealousy, Skull Kid is willing to plunge the rest of Termina into darkness too. For this reason, I think Skull Kid would be more drawn to the night gem.
| wings | Skull Kid's wings would have the pattern of Majora's Mask on them, as seen here.

| personality |

Skull Kid really loves to indulge in pranks, playing tricks on others for his own amusement. It's a hobby of his that he enjoys doing a little too much, as Tatl explains to Link that no one wanted to play with Skull Kid because of it. While Skull Kid thinks nothing of it or just treats it as a game, the way Tatl talks about Skull Kid's pranks implies that there are times where he gets a little too carried away and loses friends because of it.

Skull Kid is permanently stuck in the mindset of a young child. This is the nature of the race he belongs to - Skull Kids are children who become lost and warped into strange forest creatures. Because of what he is, Skull Kid still retains his childlike innocence in the sense that he's a mischievous child who doesn't understand the consequences of his actions. He spends a lot of his time playing his flute, drawing on trees, or playing games with whoever is willing to play with him. And since Skull Kids only get to interact with other children, they usually aren't very trusting towards adults. Skull Kid himself doesn't really have a distinct knowledge of right or wrong, and will lash out in childish anger at anything that upsets him. His actions that nearly brought about the end of Termina in Majora's Mask, while influenced by the possessed mask he was wearing, was also set into motion because he was upset that he was rejected by his friends.

Even with his seemingly carefree nature, Skull Kid gets lonely very easily and doesn't handle rejection very well. He also has a lot of difficultly making friends due to his prankster nature, which is why he desperately clings to the friends he's made. In the story told by Anju's Grandmother, it's said that the Skull Kid's only friends for a long time were the four Giants. And when the Giants split up to protect the people of that world, Skull Kid felt like they were leaving him behind and took his anger out on innocent people, spreading misery until the Giants stepped him to make him stop. Majora itself even said that it took advantage of Skull Kid's loneliness to make him its puppet.

Skull Kid tends to live very selfishly, placing his own wants before anyone else's. Before he came under the influence of Majora and attempted to destroy Termina, it's heavily implied that he's lashed out at people before and made them suffer because he thought the Giants were abandoning him, when they were actually leaving to take care of their respective lands. He also attacks and steals from the Happy Mask Salesman, which sets off the events of Majora's Mask, and he doesn't stop there either. He attacks Link as well, stealing his ocarina and riding off with his horse when Link tries to grab him. It's also mentioned that Skull Kid himself is not very strong-willed, and thus why he was so easily influenced and overpowered by Majora's Mask.

Despite his selfish and bratty nature, all Skull Kid really wants is friends. He mentions that friends are "a nice thing to have" and tries to befriend Link after Link saves him from being Majora's puppet. He also adopts the two fairy siblings, Tatl and Tael, after the Giants chase him off. Even though his antics tend to drive others away, Skull Kid has a strong desire to be accepted and acknowledged. He just goes about it in all the wrong ways, such as refusing to give up pranks and getting into mischief instead of trying to get along with other people. As a sign of friendship, Skull Kid always draws pictures of the friends he's made on trees.

| timeline | The end of Majora's Mask.

| abilities | Without the power of Majora's Mask, Skull Kid himself doesn't have any unique or special abilities. He's not very strong on his own, nor is he much of a fighter. However, he can move around very quickly and can react fast to situations, such as escaping Link by dodging his tackle and immediately taking off with Epona. Also, since the forest is his home, Skull Kid would know a lot about surviving and navigating the outdoors.

[It's hard to tell what kind of mood the Skull Kid is in right away, especially when the image that the amber slice reflects is a pair of unblinking, expressionless yellow eyes. Skull Kid twitches, giving off a short giggle. He doesn't really understand how this thing works yet, but he seems like he's slowly learning. All he needed to do was just touch it and then people had to listen to whatever you said, right?

He's more than happy to take advantage of the opportunity. Hope you weren't trying to go to bed just yet.]

Hey! Hey, is anyone still up? I'm not tired yet. Wanna tell scary stories? I've got some really good ones, hee hee!

[He waves his hands around, trying to make himself look spookier. It makes him look silly instead, bouncing around like an excited child who refuses to go to sleep.]

Come on, someone's gotta have a really good one. I bet you can't scare me!

[Will you take him up on his challenge?]

The last thing that Skull Kid remembered, was drifting off into a restless sleep.

It wasn't a surprise he'd have trouble sleeping the night he was freed from that cursed mask, but even though he no longer had to worry about the mask invading his every thought and manipulating his heart, it was hard for him to stop thinking about what happened. The suffering he caused was something that still weighed on him, and even though Tatl and Tael decided to stay with him despite what he's done, it didn't seem to make feel much better.

He nearly doesn't realize it when he finds himself in an entirely new place. The scent of wood and leaves was something he was accustomed to, the forest being his home. Even when he wakes up briefly, he gives his wooden surroundings a tired glance before nearly drifting back to sleep.

The noises outside him stir him awake again, and he murmurs sleepily.

"Tatl, lemme sleep. I don't wanna get up yet."

The noise doesn't cease, and when it becomes clear that it isn't Tatl scolding him, he pushes himself upright quickly. His surroundings aren't all that different from what he remembers, but they're still off enough that Skull Kid can recognize the difference - mainly, he's never seen that stone covered in strange markings before. He wouldn't draw something like that, so he pushes himself up to his feet so that he can take a closer look.

"What's this stuff?"

His attention shifts quickly from the runes to what's waiting for him on the stone. A backpack, filled with all kinds of interesting stuff. It might belong to someone else, but Skull Kid doesn't have any issues assuming any of it now belongs to him. Finders keepers, right?

Deciding to explore the room further, Skull Kid wanders past the light in the room and sees the two gems. The sight of the two massive stones nearly causes him to drop his backpack in awe. He's never seen anything so shiny before! He wanders towards the large, blue stone first, reaching out his hands to touch it. And the moment he does, he hears a soft clink of something breaking, before watching a small piece of the stone break off and bounce onto the floor. Skull Kid pauses, before glancing around. Did anyone see him do that...?

Well, more treasure for him to take then! With a giggle, he reaches down to pick up the stone...

...And right as he does, two large wings burst from his back. Startled, he drops the gem and the wings disappear. Skull Kid turns quickly, but the wings aren't there and the gem is still laying there innocently. He bends down next to the gem, looking it over suspiciously.

"W-what, what's with this thing?"
